A Star with a Greater Purpose
I am a star that flickers like a dying
flame.
No one understands why I am so sad
or see how the other stars laugh at me.
They tell me that I am to just stay in
the sky
looking down
at the earth below.
I know that I have a greater purpose,
there is more out there for me.
The other stars say,
“What else could there be for a star
like you?”
I
cry, trying to hide my tears
but they flow out like rain
they shimmer like glass.
I go to the end of the galaxy
and sit on its edge
thinking.
I call out to my creator, asking him
“Why did you create me the way I am?”
I struggle in the fight,
That’s why I flicker, trying to hold on
to who I am.
My creator comes and sits next to me.
“I love you for your flicker if I had
wanted you
to be like the others I would have made
you that way.”
He whispers in my ear and I beam.
I bow and dash across the Milky Way.
This is a special night
I am to shine brighter than the others
to light the way for those who
are to witness the great birth of the
creator’s son.
The stars didn’t laugh that night,
instead they plotted
I knew they wished me dead, but I also
knew my creator had a plan.
One night the other stars came for me
they started a fight and cast me down to
the earth.
As I fell I saw the babe as a grown man
being betrayed by his friends and
killed.
I mourned and cried as I crashed to the
earth.
I woke to the sound of men and women
wailing
they rolled me in front of his tomb, where
he was buried.
Three days later I was awaken by a
bright light within the tomb.
There stood my creator’s son, he smiled
at me and said,
“Dear star, don’t forget the love of your
creator!”
I waited a long time after he left.
Finally someone remembered me
they came and broke me down
til all that was left of me was dust.
I thought, “What is to become of me
now?”
Then the wind came and swept me up
I was scared at first because it would
whip
and twirl, but then I burst out with
laughter and color
it was like the dancing we used to do
back in the night sky.
I let the wind carry me to a far away
land
where I made myself happy by dancing and
twirling
with bursts of joy and color praising my
creator as I did.
The stars above looked down with awe and
curiosity
they turned to each other and said,
“That looks like so much fun, let’s see if we can join!”
“That looks like so much fun, let’s see if we can join!”
And so they excitedly descended from the
sky.
“May we join you in your dance, please?”
I
didn’t want to say yes at first, but then I remembered
the love of my creator. “It would be my
pleasure,
if you did!”
To this day we still dance in color
together
I have seen people look up at us with
awe and call us Aurora Borealis.
I taught the other stars how we are all meant
to dream
and to do something great with those
dreams.
When you look up in the sky and you see a
falling star,
do not believe that it is merely a dead
star falling to earth,
but rather
a star with a greater purpose…
Absolutely beautiful. I love all your metaphors and expressive words. You have talent girl.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, that is so nice and so encouraging. This poem was a challenge I will admit, but I did enjoy it. I liked trying to dream a little higher. :-)
